Winnie the Whale greets young kids with a big grin and small toddler slide inside her mouth. There are spray guns and fountains and bucket drops all conveniently located next to the outdoor lawn game area, where you can enjoy giant games as a family. This daring waterslide starts like any other waterslide but then propels you into a bowl where you’ll loop and spin before racing down into the pool below.

When we first visited the waterpark on CocoCay in October 2019, the price in our cruise planner was quoted at $50.99 per person for admission. In other words, a family of four would pay $204 for a day at the waterpark. With so many slides and pools, you may want to know what is included with a visit to the waterpark, and how to get the most out of your visit. This guide will give you a good overview of what the waterpark offers, as well as tips and tricks for a great day. Unlike (most of) the rest of CocoCay, which is free for you to explore, there is a fee to enjoy the waterpark. Like many things on Royal Caribbean, the fee depends on your specific cruise and ship.
A Day Unlike Any Other
When the clock hits zero, run for cover— you’re about to get swept up in the Caribbean’s biggest wave pool ever. Whether you just want to dip a toe in, or you’re ready to plunge into the simulated surf, these waves are suited to swimmers of all ages. The upper level of the tower, open December through March, offers equally breathtaking scenes with the chance to spot humpback whales on their migration back to cooler seas after calving in the Caribbean’s warm waters. The only one of its kind in the Caribbean—accessed via a boardwalk that unfurls 100 feet into the ocean—the Observation Tower rewards visitors with scenes of the surrounding coral reef.

From witnessing green turtles to barracuda, and horse-eye jacks, the views are spectacular. Visitors can swim in dramatic underground rivers, take in a show depicting the traditions of the Maya, and admire the wildlife enclosures, including the bird aviary, coral reef aquarium, and butterfly garden. Try Seatrek, an underwater helmet walk, or Snuba, a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving.
At night, there are multicolored lights to make the AquaDuck even more spectacular. Perfect Day at CocoCay is a private island only Royal Caribbean cruise ships can visit, and one way to spend your day there is to visit the waterpark. They are the dominate feature, that colorful first thing your kids notice as your family car, taxi or shuttle bus gets closer and closer to port. And let’s be honest—aside from the endless soft-serve ice cream—the water park is the next best thing on a family cruise. Norwegian Cruise Lines has some of the coolest water parks at sea on their Breakaway, Epic & Breakaway Plus Classes of ships. Indeed, on all Carnival ships, there's now not just a single waterslide but a whole water park area.

One thing to note is that we have seen discounted admissions that allow access only in the afternoon hours, but it’s not clear if that’s still an option. However, the discounts we’ve seen aren’t that much (just a few dollars), so it seems worth it to book the entire day if you plan to visit. In all, 14 of MSC Cruises' 22 vessels now have at least one waterslide on their top decks.
As of now, there’s no word on requirements to ride the waterslides in Category 6. Crown’s EdgeA completely new feature aboard Icon, you can think of Crown’s Edge as a ropes course that’s taken to a whole other level. The experience takes place on the massive Royal Caribbean logo on the side of the ship — and 150 feet over the ocean. And at the end, the floor drops, sending you riding out over the ocean. Lost DunesMini-golf has become a fixture on cruise ships, but we’ll be honest — most courses are pretty pedestrian.

The waterslides include two massive, 525-foot-long dueling slides that extend over the sides of the ship. The top of the Aqua Park on MSC Seaside is also home to the liftoff point for a zip line that soars 344 feet across the top of the vessel. In addition to The Blaster, the Perfect Storm area on Navigator of the Seas includes a headfirst mat racer slide called Riptide — the first of its kind at sea. Added to Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas in 2019, it's a seemingly endless stretch of yellow and orange tubing that winds around the back deck of the vessel like a snake.
